QUESTION #1

How do I prepare for my session?

I suggest that each horse be prepared as if they were going to a competition. Manes and tails combed out, coat clean and thoroughly groomed, and hooves polished. If you have the ability to braid, plaited manes turn out stunning!
It could also be helpful to have someone in addition to you/the horse's handler to assist if possible (crinkling peppermints or waving a whip, etc.) as I don't always have an assistant with me - it completely depends on time of year and location. If you feel that your horse could need an assistant handler and you are unable to provide one, please discuss that with me when booking your session.

QUESTION #2

What are the location requirements for a black background session?

To book a black background session, you need access to a structure that is closed in on at least two sides, has a roof, and that your horse can comfortably stand in - for example, a barn aisle or the entrance to a covered arena.
If you do not have either of the above, please contact me and I'll see if we can figure it out!
For barn aisleways, the ground should be as clean as possible and swept beforehand. For arenas, the footing should be as level as possible, but no worries - it doesn't have to be perfect!

QUESTION #3

How do I receive my images after my session?

Each session, no matter the level, includes an online portrait gallery where you can download the edited images from your session. From there, individual prints and accessories are also available for purchase.
With certain packages and the gold level upgrade, extra RAW images can be released to you as well. From there, you can purchase additional images to be edited and receive large resolution prints that can be transferred into artwork.

QUESTION #4

What if there is no portrait package that offers the amount of edited images I want?

If you already know you want extra edited images in addition to the portraits included in your package, The Collector and The Art Deco both allow purchase of add-on edited images for a discounted fee before the session begins.

QUESTION #5

Do you travel to different states?

As of now, there is a limited availability for portraits in different locations throughout the U.S.
If you're not based in GA but interested in booking a session, check out the travel schedule released on our Facebook page @brookerichardsphotography for more information.
For GA based locations, a travel fee may be applicable depending on your exact location, but will always be discussed prior to booking any portrait sessions.
Barn discounts are also offered for 4+ sessions booked at the same location.

QUESTION #6

What are gold level portraits?

The "Gold" portrait level is designed for individiduals who want complete freedom with their images after editing is completed. With the gold level upgrade, a high resolution copy of each image is provided with full printing rights for you to do whatever you want with them!
Without the gold level option, beautiful prints are available through my website, but external printing rights are not included. High resolution images for large prints are not included in the base level portrait packages, but feel free to reach out and we can tailor a unique session plan that checks all your boxes.

QUESTION #7

Can you edit this out?

The answer is almost always "yes"!
Though a fee might apply for certain editing requests, I can often make the changes you need.
As I want to showcase the best of each horse, basic retouching of scars, cuts and scrapes, and small dirt patches is included with each portrait package (though you can always opt out). Every image goes through an extensive editing journey from RAW to the final image before they show up in your hands!
HOWEVER - many edits can require an extensive period of time and some are physically impossible - for example, I CANNOT digitally "clip" a hairy horse or make dirty tack look clean. For that reason, I suggest halters and bridles to be cleaned and oiled beforehand if that is the look you desire and horses be groomed completely.
In order to prevent any delays on your album return time, you can use our pre-shoot checklist linked here to avoid any major photoshoot "oops" moments.
If you have any questions on editing specifics, please feel free to contact us before your portrait session.

QUESTION #8

What do you want on my horse for my session?

The answer is - it's completely up to you! I recommend having the horse's show bridle on hand and cleaned, as well as their halter and lead rope. The simpler the bit, the better, in order to not distract from their face.
Depending on your discipline, if you want to showcase your horse completely tacked, please do! All I ask is that saddles and saddle pads be clean and on the horse at the beginning of the session.
I do not provide halters or any accessories for your horse (apart from our seasonal themed mini-shoots) so if that is an element you desire, please have everything prepared beforehand.
